Liverpool or Man City – Who will win the Premier League title race?

Liverpool fans are hoping this is the one. The season they’ve been waiting for. The season that will put an end to their 28-year-old wait for a league title – and deliver a maiden Premier League triumph.

On the other side, Manchester City faithful were, until recently, enjoying a perfect season. Although the Champions League glory eluded them once again, the club can still make history. If the Citizens successfully defend their Premier League title, they’ll be on the road for a historic treble, having already won the League Cup and booked their place in the FA Cup final.

The Reds and the Sky Blues have been replacing each other at the top of the table in the past months, both in superb form, leaving the other Big Six sides to lead their own battle – for Champions League places. However, what is the answer to the biggest of the questions: who will win the Premier League?  Almost every UK sports betting website tries to predict a winner.  Here is our race predictor ahead of the exciting league finish.

If we look at how many games are left in the Premier League, there is no more room for mistakes. Man City (92) are just one point ahead of Liverpool (91) at the moment with two rounds to go. If, however, both teams happen to lose some ground in the finish of the campaign and end up levelled on points, goal difference will decide. Pep Guardiola’s men currently hold the edge in that department as well with +68 compared to the Reds’ +64.

Liverpool rely on a tremendous string of results. Jürgen Klopp’s side is undefeated in all competitions since January FA Cup exit to Wolverhampton. They’re on a seven-game winning streak in the league and have kept a clean sheet in the last three fixtures. On the other side of the pitch – the Reds are firing on all cylinders. League’s leading goalscorers, Mohamed Salah (21 goal) and Sadio Mané (20), both hit a brace in a 5-0 home thrashing of last-placed Huddersfield on Friday.

Liverpool remaining fixtures include an away game at Newcastle United and a last day face-off with the Wolves at the Anfield. Although both opponents have already secured the Premier League status for the next season, the trip to the St James’ Park is certainly a tricky one for the Reds. They failed to beat the Magpies up north in the last four attempts since 2013, losing twice in the process. Plus, this fixture is right in the middle of the huge two semi-final legs with Barcelona. And Klopp can hardly afford to rest key players at the Camp Nou…

Unlike their title rivals, Manchester City need not to worry about the European elite competition anymore. And with the FA Cup final scheduled after the curtain is brought down on the league campaign, they can fully focus on the Premiership title defence. The Citizens are on a magnificent run of their own of 12 straight league wins. And they conceded only three goals along the way!

Following two crucial wins against top-six sides of Tottenham and city rivals United, City remained en route with a difficult 1-0 triumph at Burnley. Sergio Agüero found the back of the net for the 20th time this season to put the Sky Blues back on top of the ladder.

Man City remaining fixtures see them first host Leicester City who beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture in December. Then, on the final day, they travel to Brighton who might be still fighting to avoid relegation – reminiscent of a famous City win over QPR on the closing day of the 2011-12 season, isn’t it?

All things taken into account, even though we might enjoy another thrilling photo finish in the battle for the Premier League title, the verdict is that Manchester City will win it. At the moment, Guardiola’s side seems too experienced and stable to miss out on the opportunity. But, hey, it’s football!
