PSG cannot afford a nearly €600 million team

La Liga president Javier Tebas blames Paris Saint-Germain for breaking Financial Fair Play rules. Lionel Messi joined the French giants on a free transfer in the summer, bringing the Argentine’s massive pay package to a team already overflowing with world-class talents like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. La Liga chief has always claimed that Barca could have retained Messi if the club’s president had agreed to the deal.

What were Tebas’s statements?

“I criticize PSG because it does not generate the money to have the squad it has,” said La Liga chief in an interview to l’Equipe. “This distorts competition in the European football economy. It does not correspond to the current sponsorship.”

Before Messi’s arrival, PSG earned 40% more money from sponsors than Manchester United. There is a market value for these contracts. Here fans can get code to predict the next transfer contracts.

How can PSG explain having a team worth almost €600 million? They will earn no more than €45 million if they win French Ligue 1. It’s impossible.

“I invited the president of PSG and the president of the French league to show them the numbers we have and where the irregularities are. They did not answer me. They are quick to criticize me, not answer me.”

“I can show, with figures to back it up, the deception in the face of Financial Fair Play. If Messi and Neymar remain at PSG, I don’t care. The point is that all this hurts European football a lot. I’m not the only one who says it.”

Lionel Messi transfer

Football fans across the globe were shocked to see the Barca superstar quit as a free agent. According to Forbes, Lionel Messi is the second most paid player worldwide, earning €93.8 million. Neymar, with € 81 million, and Kylian Mbappé with € 36.7 million, his new teammates at Paris Saint-Germain, round out the top four.

The transfer of 36-year-old striker Cristiano Ronaldo from Italian club Juventus to Manchester United allowed him to get the first line. Ronaldo will earn a total of € 106.6 million in the 2021/2022 season, with € 59.7 million coming from his salary and rewards for returning to Old Trafford. Manchester United’s stock value increased by € 650 million after the signing of the striker.

The administration of Paris Saint-Germain is preparing an official contract extension offer for striker Kilian Mbappé. According to journalist Nicolo Schira, the club plans to offer Mbappe a new five-year contract for € 36 million a year. Neymar earns the same amount at PSG.
