Estadio Joaquim Americo Guimaraes, better known as the Arena da Baixada, was opened in 1999. In 2009 it was selected as one of the host venues for the 2014 FIFA World Cup matches. The venue is the home stadium of Atlético Paranaense and will host four group matches. The result of renovation are several improvements in facilities and increased capacity from 30,000 to 43,900 due to the addition of extra seats parallel to the pitch. After a complete redevelopment the stadiums has been considered one of Brazil’s most modern and best-appointed stadiums.
